সুন্দরবনে আরও একটি রয়েল বেঙ্গল টাইগারের মৃত্যু হয়েছে। গত শুক্রবার সুন্দরবন পশ্চিম বিভাগের খুলনা রেঞ্জের আন্ধারমানিক ফরেস্ট ক্যাম্পের পুকুরপাড় থেকে ওই বাঘটির মৃতদেহ উদ্ধার করে বন বিভাগ। মৃত বাঘটির পেছনের বাম পায়ে এবং সামনের ডান পায়ে ক্ষত ছিল। অসুস্থতার কারনে বাঘটির মৃত্যু হয়ে থাকতে পারে বলে বনবিভাগ প্রাথমিকভাবে ধারনা করছে। তবে বাঘটির মৃত্যুর প্রকৃত কারণ জানতে প্রাণিসম্পদ বিভাগ শরীরের বিভিন্ন অংশের নমুনা সংগ্রহ করে তা ঢাকা পরীক্ষাগারে (ফরেনসিক) পাঠিয়েছে।

গত শনিবার রাত থেকে সাংবাদিকদের কাছে সুন্দরবনে বাঘের মৃত্যুর খবর আসলেও তা বনবিভাগ নিশ্চিত করে কিছুই বলছিল না। রবিবার রাতে বনবিভাগ স্থানীয় সাংবাদিকদের বাঘের মৃত্যুর খবরটি নিশ্চিত করে।

এটি বাঘিনী। বাঘিনীর উচ্চতা তিন ফুট এবং লম্বায় লেজসহ সাত ফুট। বয়স হবে ১৪ থেকে ১৫ বছর।

এর আগে ২০১৯ সালের ২০ আগস্ট সুন্দরবনের শরণখোলা রেঞ্জের ছাপড়াখালী থেকে একটি এবং ২০২০ সালের ৩ ফেব্রুয়ারি একই রেঞ্জের কোকিলমনি টহল ফাঁড়ি সংলগ্ন কবরখালি খালের চর থেকে একটি মৃত বাঘ উদ্ধার করে বনবিভাগ।

সুন্দরবন পশ্চিম বিভাগের বিভাগীয় বন কর্মকর্তা (ডিএফও) মো. বশিরুল আল মামুন বলেন, পশ্চিম বিভাগের খুলনা রেঞ্জের আন্ধারমানিক ফরেস্ট ক্যাম্পের আশেপাশে প্রায় এক সপ্তাহ ধরে একটি রয়েল বেঙ্গল টাইগার ঘোরাঘুরি করছিল। বাঘের ঘোরাঘুরি দেখে ক্যাম্পের কর্মকর্তা কর্মচারীরা ভীত সন্ত্রস্ত হয়ে ওঠেন। তারা প্রাণ ভয়ে ক্যাম্প থেকে বাইরে কোথাও বের পর্যন্ত হননি। সর্বশেষ গত শুক্রবার সকালে ক্যাম্পের পাশের পুকুরপাড়ে বাঘটিকে তারা দেখতে পান। অনেক সময় পার হলেও বাঘটির স্থান পরিবর্তন না দেখে ক্যাম্পের সদস্যদের সন্দেহ হয়। তখন তারা ক্যাম্প থেকে বের হয়ে দূর থেকে দেখেন বাঘটির পাশে মাছির আনাগোনা করছে। পরে তারা কাছে গিয়ে দেখেন বাঘটি মরে পড়ে আছে। ক্যাম্পের সদস্যরা বিষয়টি জানালে আমি প্রাণিসম্পদ বিভাগকে সাথে নিয়ে শনিবার সকালে ঘটনাস্থলে যাই। সেখানে গিয়ে প্রাণিসম্পদ বিভাগের বিশেষজ্ঞ চিকিৎসক বাঘটির পেছন ও সামনের পায়ে ক্ষত দেখতে পান। পেছনের বাম পায়ের নিচের অংশ (থাবা) নেই। বাঘটি তার বিচরণ এলাকায় অন্য কোন প্রাণির সাথে বিবাদে জড়িয়ে মারামারি করে আহত হয়। শারীরিক অসুস্থার কারণে তার মৃত্যু হয়ে থাকতে পারে বলে প্রাথমিকভাবে ধারণা করছি। বাঘটির মৃত্যুর প্রকৃত কারণ জানতে নমুনা সংগ্রহ করে ঢাকার পরীক্ষাগারে পাঠানো হয়েছে। পরে বাঘটিকে আন্ধারমানিক এলাকায় মাটি চাপা দেয়া হয়েছে।
